‘Pink Out’ tonight at Barton games

In conjunction with tonight's Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division home basketball game with Hutchinson at Kirkman Activity Center, Barton Community College will dedicate the night to "Pink Out" for breast cancer awareness.

John Donovan Neeland 1930 - 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - John Donovan Neeland died at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Jan. 12. The son of Donovan and Mary Agnes "Mamie" (Risse) Neeland, he was born in Great Bend on Nov. 6, 1930. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1949 and attended Kansas State University. On Jan. 31, 1953, he married Elaine Habiger. They later divorced. He then married Imogene Wilson. She died on Jan. 3, 1994. He married Emma Greenlee on May 31, 1995, in Colorado Springs. She died on Oct. 2, 2009. He was involved in farming and ranching before leaving Kansas ...

BCC trustees to hear residence hall report

There will be a report on the residence halls when the Barton Community College Board of Trustees meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30, the seminar room of the Fine Arts Building. The board will also hear a report on personal enrichment of students, which is one of the ends monitored by the college.

Whooping cranes overwintering in Kansas

At least five whooping cranes are believed to be spending the winter in south-central Kansas, according to sightings being monitored by staff from both Quivira National Wildlife Refuge and Cheyenne Bottoms State Wildlife Area. Although some sightings have been on either Cheyenne Bottoms or Quivira, most have been on private lands in the surrounding region. The endangered whooping cranes, in three separate groups, include a family group of three (2 adults and one juvenile), a lone juvenile bird, and a single adult that has primarily been observed within a large flock of Sandhill Cranes.

GB wrestlers finish 3rd at Sub-districts

Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club traveled to Pratt on Saturday to compete against other western Kansas teams. The kids battled all day long at the Sub-Districts tournament and finished 3rd place out of 23 teams.

Walker selected MVP of Jayhawk West

Ahmad Walker established himself as one of the top players in the Jayhawk West during a terrific sophomore season. The coaches in the conference felt he was the best, selecting the Barton Community College guard as the Most Valuable Player in the conference this season.
