I never had anyone tell me that before. After our conversation I asked myself, "What does it mean when she calls herself a pagan?"

Barton County Association of Churches is planning its annual soup supper, which will take place from 4:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the Prince of Peace Parish Center in Great Bend. A freewill donation will be taken, and all can enjoy soup and pie or cake, organizers said. Dine-in and carryout will be available.
ELLINWOOD - Barton County children who receive a diagnosis of cancer will be the beneficiaries of the 2nd Annual Kans for Kids Shrimp Boil and Auction to be held Sat., Oct. 20 at Lone Wolf Restaurant, 111 E. 2nd, Ellinwood. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Bidding on silent auction items will be from 5:30 until dinner with the live auction at 7 p.m.

Thompson Gymnastics Competition Team is finishing out their season strong which runs from January to May. The Competition Team consisted of girls of the ages 6 - 15 with skills from Level 1 to Level 7.

Superior Essex of Hoisington announces the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Joe Axman, Master Mechanic, was named the first quarter 2015 STAR Employee and will be treated to a dinner in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
The District National Qualifying Speech tournament was held at Bethel College in Newton on April 17 and 18. Eight students competed and placed 7th in sweepstakes out of 14 schools. Three students advanced to the elimination rounds. Sophomore, Hadley Murphy, was a semifinalist in Original Oration. Sophomore, Ashtin Heath and Junior, Malia Clark, advanced to Finals in Dramatic Interpretation. Malia Clark placed 5th and Ashtin Heath placed 4th qualifying her to Nationals. Ashtin Heath will compete at the national tournament in Dallas, Texas, June 13th through June 19th.
Pope Francis recently annoyed the Turkish government by making the politically incorrect observation that it had exterminated a generation of Christian Armenians. He used the word "genocide," which is something that the Turks have been rejecting for decades.
Should women serve in combat? Right now the military is answering that question with a final verdict scheduled to come down from Defense Secretary Ashton Carter in January 2016. This will inevitably become a political question-and thus particularly useless in producing a satisfactory answer-but until then it's useful to understand that the military sees this question differently than you and I do.
