Longtime board member Larry Carr was honored at the Fort Larned Historical Society's annual meeting last Monday at the Santa Fe Trail Center. Board President Tom Seltmann thanked Carr for his many years of service as he steps down from the Santa Fe Trail Center Museum's governing board. Carr's service on the board of directors spanned 24 years, from 1986 to 2010.
Jeffrey Jensen, 61, lifetime Ellinwood and Great Bend resident, died suddenly Nov. 13. Survivors and arrangements will be announced by Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood.
SEWARD - Ricki Lee Walker, 56, died Nov. 11 at his home in Seward. He was born Nov. 12, 1953, in Larned, the son of Eddie Ralph and Jennie Pearl (McBride) Walker. He was a retired service technician for the agriculture irrigation industry and a resident of Seward for seven years.
PAWNEE ROCK - Ben Unruh, 86, resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Woodward, Okla., and Pawnee Rock, passed away on Nov. 12 at Colorado Springs. Ben was born Sept. 25, 1924, north of Pawnee Rock to the late Benjamin and Carrie Unruh.

The Great Bend High School Speech team placed in 11 events at the Nickerson Speech Tournament. Those placing were Makinna Dykes, Kris Gieck and Ashtin Heath. Ashtin placed in both of her events. Those placing in all of their events and qualifying for the State Speech Championship Tournament in May are Malia Clark, Jesus Sandoval and Carter Sheffield. Carter Sheffield also won the Triathlon Award by placing the highest in all three of his events. He placed 1st in Extemporaneous Speaking, 1st in Serious Solo Acting and 3rd in Impromptu Speaking. The team placed 3rd overall.
