Five experts in the field of nutrition and baking will offer free educational seminars during the second National Festival of Breads, June 25. The Educational Seminar session, each which last about 45 minutes, begin at 9 a.m. at the Airport Hilton Inn, 2098 Airport Road, Wichita. The seminar is free and open to the public.
Linda Marmie of Chapter DU, JanBonine of Chapter IV, Becky Hill of Chapter HR and Margie Nairn of chapter FS, were among more than 250 delegates who attended the 109th annual convention of Kansas State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, June 3-5, in Wichita. The theme for the convention was "Destination P.E.O." Kansas State Chapter President Jeanette Mooney of Chapter JB, Paola, presided.

Heartland Cancer Center Cancer Support Group will hold a "Get Acquainted or Reacquainted" picnic at 6 p.m. on June 21 at Veterans Park west shelter house. Colonel Ernest E. Garcia, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Captain Richard "John" Walters is retired from the Patrol after serving over 33 years with the agency. Walters' retirement was effective June 11.
USD 428 Great Bend School Food Service will offer the summer lunch program at Riley, Park, Eisenhower and Lincoln schools. The program will run from June 1 through June 24 (Monday through Thursday). Breakfast is served at Park and Riley only. There is no charge for anyone age 1 through 18. Sites are open to all children regardless of where they attend school. Parents may eat with their children for $3 for lunch or $2 for breakfast. All food must be consumed on site.
The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced developments in two popular USDA programs that will support conservation of working lands for the benefit of wildlife, water quality, and recreation. The Secretary announced that USDA will accept 2.8 million acres offered by landowners under the 41st Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up. The selections preserve and enhance environmentally sensitive lands while providing payments to property owners.
