ELLSWORTH - Loren R. Zelenka, 53, died Oct. 27 at Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 19, 1958, at Cannon City, Colo., to Roy and Betty (Belt) Zelenka. He grew up in Wilson, and lived most of his life in California and Wilson. He married Sherith Loper on May 29, 1992, at Wilson. He was a welder.

In Barton County, 6.9 percent of income from Social Security

If Barton County residents didn't receive their monthly payments from the Social Security Administration, 6.9 percent of total personal income in the county would be lost, a total of $74,871,073 in 2009, according to data from the federal Bureau for Economic Analysis and the Social Security Administration.

EDH offers tax credits for sale

ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood District Hospital has been granted approximately $200,000 in tax credits which can be purchased for the 2011 and 2012 tax years. The tax credits will give the participant a 70 percent state tax credit, and a 100 percent federal tax deduction.

CLAFLIN - The Central Plains High School KAY organization is asking for help to warm the hearts of families in need this winter.
