Young Professionals announce networking mixer

The Barton County Young Professionals will have a networking mixer from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at the CPI Annex Building, 24th and Kansas Ave. The group is open to anyone 21-40 years old.

GBRC offers dog program at next Stop ‘N Learn

"Dog Care" will be the topic of a free Stop 'N Learn session, from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Bill Niederee, D.V.M. will talk about vaccinations, diet, micro chips, fleas and tick prevention, and other information. There will also be time for questions.

Ellinwood forensics earns awards

The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team competed at the Kiowa County Invitational in Greensburg on Saturday, Feb. 18. Ellinwood earned a plaque for 2nd place in team sweepstakes and earned 10 individual medals. Nineteen schools participated in the meet.

Habitat for Humanity seeks weekend warriors

Habitat for Humanity of Barton County resumed construction earlier this month on their latest partner project at 1906 Hubbard. The three bedroom, two bathroom house will soon become a home for the Wilkerson family of Great Bend. Daryl and Amber Wilkerson have four children, and are helping with the construction project by putting sweat equity hours during each volunteer weekend, said Habitat President Rachel Mawhirter.

Terry Turner, DVM, reception

After several decades of service, Terry Turner, DVM, has withdrawn from the board of directors of the Golden Belt Humane Society. Dr. Turner served as Vice-President for most of those years, and his input and assistance will be missed. A celebration of thanks will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Elk's Lodge. All friends are invited to wish him well.

Blazers place second

The Barton Blazers took second place in the Shawnee Mission/Overland Park Premiere basketball tournament. The Blazers defeated the Reno County Elite, Beastmode, Bobcats, and CNBA. They lost in the championship game to Missouri Flight. The Blazers will be playing at home this coming weekend in the Great Bend MAYB tourney. Players include, Brock Skelton, Evan Campbell, Nick Wondra, Chance Sanger, Ray Kuhlman, Connor Griffith, Sam Ryan, and JJ Heredia.
