BCC trustees getting iPads

First the Barton Community College Trustees went paperless with laptop computers, and now they are switching to iPads for board communications. IPad orientation and training is on the agenda for this month's board study session, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building.

Two injured in Broadway-K-96 collision

Two women were injured when a car collided with a pickup at 10:05 a.m. Monday at K-96 and Broadway. According to Great Bend Police Sgt. Gary Davis, a Cadillac driven by Lynn Officer was northbound on K-96 and struck the Ford pickup driven by Charles Bellinger, who was driving east on Broadway.

Officer presents Street Drugs program for Rec Commission

Great Bend Police officer Brian Dougherty will provide an update on street drugs in the next Great Bend Recreation Commission Stop 'N Learn. The free one-hour program will be presented at noon Wednesday at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St., and again at 1 p.m. Friday at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave.

Touched by Cancer support group meets Tuesday

Heartland Cancer Center's Touched by Cancer Group will hold a sharing meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, and a Thanksgiving sharing meeting at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the center, 204 Cleveland St. Group meetings and activities are open to individuals currently fighting the disease, cancer survivors, or families and friends of those involved in all phases of the fight with cancer.

GBHS Speech Team places 4th

At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting. "The team only brought four students and still placed 4th overall in sweepstakes out of 13 schools which is very impressive." stated GBHS speech coach Barbara Watson.

PITTSBURG – Pittsburg State University has released the honor rolls for the 2014 fall semester.
