John Leroy Noblitt, 61, passed away in Great Bend early on Wednesday morning, Sept. 26. Born Dec. 6, 1950 in Great Bend, he was the son of Jack and Clara (Hamrdla) Noblitt. A resident of Great Bend for the majority of his life, he attended school in Great Bend, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968. A United States Army veteran, John served in Vietnam. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated an accident about 5:32 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 56 and K-156. The patrol reports that a GMC 1500 pick-up operated by Tanner Cain, 20, of Beaver, Okla. had stopped at a stop sign before driving onto U.S. 56 into the path of a westbound Mack semi-tractor operated by Brian Wick, 39, of Ness City. Cain was injured and transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital. Wick was not injured. Traffic was diverted at the intersection.

Cleo Eugene Watkins, 83, died on Dec. 6, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis in Wichita. Born on Jan. 21, 1931, in Stockton, he was the son of Roy Bryon and Grace Mae (Hulst) Watkins. A resident of Great Bend for most of his life he worked as a Lineman for Midwest Energy until he retired. Everyone that knew him, knew how much he has always loved his motorcycles, both working on them and riding. He was also an avid bowler most of his adult life, a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by many.
A Larned woman was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita on Wednesday after a morning rollover accident in Pawnee County. A hospital spokesman said Lindsey N. Miller, 31, was in critical condition Wednesday evening.

WICHITA - Three Great Bend residents and two Hutchinson residents have been charged in U.S. District Court for suspected counterfeiting and/or passing counterfeit money, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement are seeking the public's assistance in the location and apprehension of Justin E Peterson. Peterson skipped bond in June, when he failed to appear in the Barton County District Court. Several other warrants have been issued for his arrest. Peterson was out on bond stemming from drug related and other charges. He has a history of violent crime and weapons violations.
