Local students named Governor’s Scholar

At the invitation of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Ethan Kaufman, Russell High School, Taylor Fry, Great Bend High School and Conner Birzer, Ellinwood High School, were selected to attend the 30th Annual Governor's Scholars Awards Program on May 5, in Topeka.

Earl Burroughs 80th

Earl Burroughs of Aurora, Colo. will celebrate his 80th birthday with a surprise Open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 25 at the Front Door in Great Bend. Hosts for the event will be his daughter, Anita Burroughs, granddaughter, Erica St. James and grandson Andrew St. James, all of Aurora, Colo. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

Lonnie Kuhn and Stephen Keller were united in marriage on May 3, 1948 at St. Mary's Church in Ellis in a ceremony officiated by Father Virgil Kuhn. Stephen is retired from the Barton County Highway Department. Lonnie is a retired teacher.
