ELLINWOOD - The Memory Makers scrapbooking group will host a two-day scrapping event beginning today at noon at First Baptist Church, located at 503 A SE 110 Ave. in rural Ellinwood. The event will continue today until midnight and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, continuing to 9 p.m. Admission is free, but participants are asked to bring a snack to share, said Pam Hendricks with the church. No reservation is needed.

Recently, the Gallop Poll organization came out with its annual morality poll for America. This past weekend, Dr. Richard Land commented on the poll during his Richard Land Live program. I saw some interesting things in both and a need to return to what the Bible has to say.

Timothy Joseph Miller, 72, died June 7 in Great Bend, following a brief struggle with cancer. He was born Jan. 24, 1940, at El Dorado, the son of Cyril W. "Cy" and Frances Cecelia (Muth) Miller. He was a 1957 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Marilyn Fern Betts at Great Bend. They later divorced. He married Loretta K. Bradshaw on May 25, 1985, at Eureka Springs, Ark. After a night of patrolling, a Barton County Sheriff's Office deputy returned to headquarters Sunday morning and discovered the patrol car had been sideswiped somewhere in the county. The vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Charger, had damage and paint transfer from another vehicle on the passenger-side doors and rear quarter panel.
Two male inmates in separate pods at the Barton County Jail attempted to hang themselves using sheets this past weekend, Undersheriff Bruce Green confirmed Tuesday. In each instance, another inmate noticed what was happening and alerted a detention officer before serious injury occurred.

Jack Daubert, 61, died Oct. 19 at Hutchinson Regional Hospital. Born in Great Bend, on April 9, 1953, he was the son of Herman and Wanda (Riemann) Daubert. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1972. Jack worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at "The Cedars" retirement community in McPherson. He was a longtime resident of Great Bend.
