Barton Community College history instructor Linda McCaffery will teach a course about the Native Americans who inhabited Kansas, beginning with the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. The class, "Native People of Kansas," will meet from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 6 through May 1, in room F-30, the seminar room of Barton's Fine Arts Building.
Sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on Feb. 18, the wheels and tires were stolen off a 1980 Jeep CJ 7 Renegade parked at 2107 Madison St. in Great Bend. A yellow, 6-foot recovery strap was also stolen. Loss was $1,620.

Presbyterian Women of Great Bend will hold their annual Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in the church Fellowship Hall at 24th and Washington. Funds raised by the rummage sale are contributed by Presbyterian Women to local charities and service organizations as well as to national and world-wide missions. A wide variety of minimally priced useful items in good condition will be for sale, spokesman Carol Woodmansee said.

On November 30th, voters in Switzerland will head to the polls to vote in a referendum on gold. On the ballot is a measure to prohibit the Swiss National Bank (SNB) from further gold sales, to repatriate Swiss-owned gold to Switzerland, and to mandate that gold make up at least 20 percent of the SNB's assets. Arising from popular sentiment similar to movements in the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, this referendum is an attempt to bring more oversight and accountability to the SNB, Switzerland's central bank.

United Methodists in Nebraska and Kansas launched its public school partnership with an education caravan in July at three Kansas locations designed to bring attention to the importance of public schools. Three more are scheduled in Nebraska on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 2. United Methodists in the new Great Plains Conference (Nebraska and Kansas) intend to increase collaborative efforts between United Methodist congregations, schools and community partners to support local schools.
