School to host athletic scholarship seminar

On Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in the new gym at Ellinwood High School, Dr. Ted K. Kessinger will be presenting an athletic scholarship seminar. Dr. Kessinger and two guest speakers will cover topics such as recruitment and the college selection process. During his tenure as head football coach at Bethany College, Dr. Kessinger compiled a record of 219-57-1 in 28 seasons. He coached 400 All-KCAC performers, 49 NAIA scholar athletes, and 43 NAIA All-Americans. His teams finished in the NAIA Top 25 twenty times and made 13 NAIA playoff appearances. Thief cleaned out storage shed

Crime Stoppers is seeking information about the theft of items from a storage shed in Great Bend earlier this year. Police Chief Dean Akings said the shed at 800 Washington St. No. 54 was last visited on Jan. 20. The items were stolen sometime between that date and Feb. 20, when it was discovered that the padlock was missing.

USD 428, Holy Family, Helping Hands and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served March 23 through March 27. The secondary schools also have available daily: second choices, chef salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Parenting workshop set

A three part "Responsive Discipline" parenting workshop is set to begin soon. The class, led by Donna Krug, Barton County Extension Family & Consumer Science Agent, will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 31, April 7, and 14, at the Barton County Extension Office. Registration is $5 which covers the cost of materials. Program participants will learn why children misbehave and strategies for preventing misbehavior. Walking School Bus is Getting Kids Excited

Over the weekend, my seven year old granddaughter, Calyn, excitedly told me, "Grandma, I'm going to join the Walking School Bus when it starts April 1st." "That's wonderful," I replied.
