A Smith Center woman was taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center on Sunday afternoon after losing control of a car on K-14, six miles north of Ellsworth. Accident in Ellsworth County kills 1, injures 10
ELLSWORTH (AP) - One person died and 10 were injured in a Memorial Day accident in central Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident occurred late Sunday night on Interstate 70 about 13 miles northeast of Ellsworth. Twelve people, mostly from Mexico, were in the car. Three people were injured Saturday night when the pickup they were riding in went off a Stafford County road. The driver of the 1976 Ford pickup, Kodey S. Claussen, 15, of St. John, was not injured. A vehicle driven by Tabatha L. Bomgardner of Great Bend was westbound on 12th St. turning north onto Harrison at 6:40 p.m. Friday and reportedly struck a lawn mower and individual who was mowing, and then left the area. The Barton County team of Ryan Kohman, Parker Smith, Katelyn Reh and Lake Lyman placed 2nd in the state at the recent State 4-H Air Rifle Competition. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program uses the skills and disciplines of shooting to assist young people and their leaders to attain knowledge and develop essential life skills.

Kansas CRP meetings for landowners prior to signup hosted by PF
Pheasants Forever is hosting fifty-one informational meetings across Kansas for landowners and agricultural producers in advance of the USDA Farm Service Agency's Conservation Reserve Program general sign-up that runs May 20 through June 14. Led by Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologists, landowners can learn how to increase their farm or ranch income while creating wildlife habitat in the process.

USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools
The following meals will be served May 13 through May 17. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
