Isabella Sander 1923 - 2011

Isabella Sander, 88, died Sept. 26 at Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1923, in Liebenthal, she was the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Kippes) Amrein. On Sept. 3, 1946 she married Edward Sander in Ellis. He died March 8, 1994. She was a nurses' aid at the Great Bend Manor for many years and grew up in Liebenthal. Her family moved to Ellis in 1931. In 1947 she moved to Elgin, Ill., and in 1969 moved to Great Bend. She has been a resident of Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood for the last year and a half. She enjoyed ...

CHASE - James Dennis (JD)Sheldon, 31, died Sept. 26 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1979 in Great Bend, he was the son of Dennis L. Sheldon and Karen K. Spring-Norwood Sheldon. A resident of Chase, he was a truck driver for Barton County Feeders in Ellinwood and a mechanic for Straub International in Great Bend and for Ochs, Inc. in Otis.

Ellinwood Garden Club to host antique show

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Garden Club will host an antique and collectables show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 at St. Joseph Parish Center. Appraisals will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Cost is $2, which is good for both days.

GBRH donates to Riley School library

Great Bend Regional Hospital has provided a financial donation to Riley Elementary School that will benefit the school's library. As a result Riley is able to purchase books to go along with its anti-bullying curriculum. Riley already teaches the lessons, explained Riley Elementary School Principal Joann Blevins, but there wasn't enough in the school's library fund to also purchase the books that go along with the curriculum. With the donation, however, Blevins said they will immediately make the purchase to receive the books as quickly as possible.

Joseph F. Bunk 1947 - 2015

WICHITA - Joseph F. Bunk, 67, passed away Feb. 28. He was born July 14, 1947, in Great Bend, to Maurice and Mary (Kaechele) Bunk of Hoisington. In 1965, Joe graduated from Hoisington High School. After serving his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, he attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting.

AUGUSTA - Victor L. Shumate, 64, died on March 12, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Born Jan. 4, 1951, in El Dorado, he was the son of Paul Bennett and Isa Lou (Gale) Shumate. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School and Butler County Community College. He was a retired truck driver and care giver.
