Hoisington’s 115th Annual Labor Day celebration to hold basketball tournament

HOISINGTON - Once again the Hoisington Labor Day Committee will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The cost is $50 per four-man team. Team registrations and payment must be made by Wednesday, Aug. 31.

USD 112 to hold enrollment Aug. 9,10

HOLYROOD - USD 112 will hold Central Plains Elementary School, Middle School at Holyrood at 1 p.m. Aug. 9. On Aug. 10, middle school and elementary school enrollment will be at 9 a.m. at Bushton.

Pastor Duane and Sue Kershner at Faith Community Church

Pastor Duane and Sue Kershner will be ministering at 7 p.m. on Saturday and at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, at Faith Community Church. In 1990, the Kershners left central Kansas to establish the Roca Blanca Mission Base in the State of Oaxaca located in the southern part of Mexico. Holyrood history collected

In preparation for Holyrood's 125th Jubilee, July 21 to 23, Carol and Don Siemsen have spent months collecting and organizing memorabilia, pictures and histories for a Holyrood history display.

Barbara Stecklein exhibit at Deines Cultural Center

Barbara Stecklein began her art career in 1985, after completing a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree from the University of Texas in San Antonio, Texas. She concentrated on still life compositions using watercolor and graphite. Eventually she added charcoal and pastel.

Prince of Peace picnic

The Prince of Peace Parish Picnic, to welcome Father Don, will be held at 2 p.m. at Camp Aldrich on July 23. Activities include horseback riding, hayrack rides, swimming, horse shoes, bonfire, basketball, card games, dominoes, dancing and more. The celebration of Mass will be at 5:30 p.m., which will replace the normal Saturday evening Mass at St. Rose. A bbq will follow at 7 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, tea, water and Kool-aid will be provided. No alcohol will be allowed. The band "Freelance" will provide music from 8 to 11 p.m.

Joiner appointed to new St. Rose position

When the facility was called Central Kansas Medical Center, Meredith Joiner started as a registered nurse, and later become director of nursing and then a recruiter. Now that it is called St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center, Joiner's new title is executive director of physician enterprise.

Youth Follow the Lead of Pioneers

Between 1840 and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, a quarter million people crossed the great plains on foot or in wagons as they moved west to begin new lives. This summer, 77 youth (14 to 18) and 44 adults (acting as chaperons) went on a three day trek with the Sooner Cattle Company in Pawhuska, Okla. to experience a little of what they went through. The Sooner Cattle Company runs these treks from spring through fall.
