Free movies showing at the public library

Four organizations featuring monarch migration

As the monarch butterflies flutter through our area on their great fall migration, four organizations have joined to celebrate the unique beauty and the endangered existence of these remarkable insects. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 24, and continuing through October, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Shafer Gallery, Barton County Arts Council and the Barton County Historical Society will team to showcase the monarchs' tale.

Mary Anne Durler Jacobson 1921 - 2011

GREELEY, Colo. - Mary Anne Durler was born in Leavenworth on April 27, 1921, the daughter of John Jacob Durler, Sr. and Marguerite Cecelia Reynolds. She graduated from The Dominican (St. Rose) School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1944 and on May 11, 1944 enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corps, receiving her basic training at Colorado Springs.

BOCK Poker Run

The Big Bend Bike Rally Poker Run, sponsored by Bikers of Central Kansas, will be held on Sunday. The run will begin at 10 a.m. with the last bike in at 4 p.m. Cost is $10 per hand or $25 for three hands. Great Bend couple wins $5,000 while visiting state fair

HUTCHINSON – While visiting the Kansas State Fair on Sunday, Keith and Tammy Bell of Great Bend stopped by the Kansas Lottery Building to try their luck at winning a "muscle car" in a second-chance drawing. Although they didn't win the car, they did walk away with a $5,000 cash prize playing a $5 Muscle Car Money instant scratch ticket.

Farm expo coming to town

The 2015 Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo will be held Wednesday through Friday, April 8, 9, and 10, 2015 in Great Bend. The show is located at the Expo Complex west of town. The show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 8th, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on the 9th and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th with extended hours on Thursday.
