The following meals will be served Jan. 7 through Jan. 11. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Coming Attractions

While you may think New Year's Day passing means a period of quiet in agriculture, it really signals the start of meeting season for farmers and ranchers. Private industry, producer groups, and public organizations spend this time of year educating and informing the agriculture industry on a variety of topics. K-State Research and Extension is especially active in providing knowledge on topics ranging from weed control to risk management. To that end, it may be useful to list just a few of the events coming up over the next several months.

Barton women lose tennis match with Cowley

HESSTON- In the final tune-up match for the Region VI Championships, the Barton Community College women's tennis team did not have the success it would have liked. In fact it was another day of fighting injuries for the Cougars as they lost to nationally ranked Cowley College 8-1.

W. “Fritz” Waymaster 1927 - 2015

RUSSELL - W. "Fritz" Waymaster, 87, died on April 12, 2015, at the Russell Regional Hospital. Born on July 30, 1927, in rural Bunker Hill, he was the son of David J. and Anna E. (Steinle) Waymaster. He grew up in the Bunker Hill area and started school there as well. Later he moved and finished his basic education in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1945.

HUTCHINSON - Marilyn K. Rivers, 74, died April 12, 2015, at Dillon Living Center. She was born June 19, 1940, in Norton, the daughter of John and Addie Sheets Rivers. She was a 1959 graduate of Great Bend High School. A resident of Hutchinson since 1960, she worked retail for her parents at Rivers Shoe Store.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gregory Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Survey to begin on US-56 Highway in Rice County

Starting around Monday, April 20, and continuing for three weeks, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will have a field survey team surveying a section of US-56 Highway in Rice County. The survey area will include the section of US-56 highway 1,200 feet east and 1,200 feet west of the US-56 bridge over the overflow channel for the Little Arkansas River located 1.1 miles east of the US-56 highway intersection with K-46 highway. The purpose of the survey is to gather information necessary to create detailed designs for future highway improvements.
