Sheriff issues advance warning of selective enforcement

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Barton County Sheriff's Office will conduct selective enforcement from 7-9 a.m. on West Barton County Road. (10th Street Extension) between the Great Bend city limits and SW 70 Ave. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said officers will be paying particular attention to speed violations and occupant restraint usage.

​Homemade ice cream social, bake sale planned

MILBERGER - United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger is hosting a homemade ice cream social and bake sale from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the church. There will be lots of homemade baked items and desserts. A freewill offering will be taken. Aluminum cans are being collected for Kans for Kids, so bring your cans. Everyone is welcome.

​Group plans Christian meet and greet, announces new community web page

City Church Ministries will host a citywide Christian Meet 'n' Greet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the large shelter in Veterans Memorial Park. Those who can afford it are asked to bring a covered dish. All Christians are invited for a time of fellowship, testimonies and prayer for the community.

Movies With a Message series announced

Heartland Center for Spirituality in Great Bend will present its first in its Movies with a Message series on Friday, Aug. 23. The movie, "Thomas Merton: A Film Biography," covers the life of Father Merton, who was an acclaimed 20th century writer on spirituality and social issues. The movie begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Dominican Sister Motherhouse, 3600 Broadway. Refreshments will be served, and there will be discussion time after the movie. A freewill donation is requested.
