Keith David Hammeke 1941 - 2012

ELLINWOOD - Keith David Hammeke, 71, died Oct. 24 at Ellinwood District Hospital. He was born July 23, 1941, at Ellinwood, the son of David Fredrick and Frances Sprinker Hammeke. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1959, and attended Fort Hays State University. He married Angie Biermann on Aug. 8, 1970, at Colwich. A lifetime Ellinwood resident, he was a farmer.

​Frank Francis Miguel 1932 - 2012

Frank Francis Miguel, 80, died Oct. 23 at his home in Great Bend. Born July 6, 1932, in Layton, Calif., he was the son of Antonio and Adlathe (Mendes) Miguel. He married Anita Jane Teeples in Fresno, Calif. She died in November 1991. A resident of Great Bend since 2003, coming from Fresno, Calif., he was a farm hand.

GBHS Debate places four and gets Grand Champion Title

On Oct. 20, the Great Bend High School debate team traveled to Valley Center High School to compete with two varsity, one junior varsity and four novice teams against 30 other schools with 40 varsity, 39 junior varsity and 66 novice teams. In varsity division, Michael Gieck and Jordan Stoulil placed 8th with a 4-1 win loss record and 26 speaker points. "Open was a great experience I hope to do better next time" Stoulil stated.

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series. Snowpacked road causes rollover accident

The Barton County Sheriff's Office responded to a possible injury accident at 1:05 a.m. Monday on K-4, about 1 mile west of the K-4/U.S. 281 junction, or half a mile east of NW 50 Ave. Although a 2008 Ford F-150 slid off the snow-packed highway and rolled 1.5 times, everyone was wearing seat belts and they were not injured.
