EDNA - Doris Sheridan, 69, passed away peacefully at her home in Edna on Aug. 6. Doris was born Nov. 19, 1942, to Ralph Jack and Lottie Urbanovich Harms in Ellsworth. She was a longtime Ellsworth County resident and a 1960 graduate of Geneseo High School. On May 28, 1988 she married William 'Bill' Sheridan in Ellsworth. Doris owned her own beautician business, worked as a bookkeeper at the Lorraine State Bank and Lorraine Grain and Fuel Company and was a Gas Processing Operator for Northern Natural Gas and Tejas Gas Companies.

Luther Morgenstern, 98, died Dec. 6 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1916, on the farm in Russell County, the son of Sam G. and Lena (Radke) Morgenstern. On Aug. 23, 1949, he married Helen Margheim in Hoisington. She died Feb. 11, 2008. Luther was a farmer and a contract pumper in the oil fields, retiring in 1980.
Verl Lee Martin, 84, died December 8 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born August 5, 1930, at Utica, the son of Clade and Sylvia (Everhart) Martin. A Great Bend resident since 1971, he worked for Missouri-Pacific Truck Lines and Turner Farms as a truck driver.
Daniel Nobles, 88, died Dec. 7 at Life Care Center, Wichita. Born Feb. 21, 1926, at Stuttgart, Ark., he was the son of Cagie, Sr. and Georgia B. (Stewart) Nobles. He married Alice Mary Cushinberry on Dec. 18, 1947, at Hoisington. She died March 6, 2014. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was facilities manager for the Great Bend Post Office.
Frank E. Thurman, 65, of Great Bend, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 5, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born Sept. 25, 1949, in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was the son of Arthur and Ethel (Deeder) Thurman. On June 29, 2000, he was united in marriage to Mary Walsh in Council Grove. A Great Bend resident since 2006, having moved here from Alta Vista, he loved NASCAR, and had a passion for fixing up old cars and spending precious time with his grandchildren.
HOISINGTON - Teresa Marie Rome, 87, died Dec. 9 at her home Hoisington. Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Odin, she was the daughter of Frank and Antoinette (Hermann) Gerritzen. In 1955, she married Norbert Joseph Rome. He died on June 6, 1981. A longtime resident of Hoisington, she worked as a dietary aide for Clara Barton Hospital. She enjoyed playing pinochle and watching her grandchildren's activities.

A Rush Center woman was in a car that was rear-ended Monday in Sedgwick County, pushing it into another vehicle, but she was not injured. Two other people were taken to Wichita hospitals with injuries, Kansas Highway Patrol reports.

The final visit to the Barton Gym for Coach Francis Flax was a memorable one. The Brown Mackie College men's basketball coach, wrapping up a 32-year career this season, made his final visit to a gym that he has visited probably about as many times as any other gym but his own over his career. In that final game Saturday afternoon the veteran coach left with a 97-93 win over the host Barton Community College Cougars.
