The descendents of the Emil and Josephine Zorn Schneweis family held their family reunion July 9 at Camp Aldrich. A meal was catered by Lone Wolf Restaurant of Ellinwood. Picture taking, swimming, visiting and door prizes took place. Mark Hill of Hoxie welcomed all. Mary Stewart of Great Bend awarded prizes. Francis Schneweis of Guymon, Okla. introduced Edwin Schneweis of Great Bend, leading the group in prayer.
Jessica Leiker and Abbie Schuster, from Great Bend, have begun their hands-on, clinical training at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita before receiving medical doctor degrees. For the last two years, Leiker and Schuster studied biological sciences in Kansas City.

The After Harvest Czech Festival will be held on July 30 in Wilson. A Czech Buffet, made by St. Wenceslaus Altar Society will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or when the food runs out, at 2811 Ave. D. Menu consists of roast beef, roast pork, jaternice, potatoes in dill gravy, sauerkraut, dumplings, vegetables, rohlicky, kolaches and a drink. Price is $11 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 10. Kolaches and other homemade items will be sold at the Country Store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Juanita (Paden) Alpers will celebrate her 80th birthday on July 28 with a card shower. Juanita married Marion Alpers on Feb. 10, 1952. They live in Hudson where she served as a school secretary and still is a homemaker and farmer's wife. The prospective groom is the grandson of Betty LoBurgio, the late Nicolo LoBurgio, and the late Ed and Susie Truesdell.

Great Bend Police are investigating a robbery reported Saturday morning at 2002 Holland St. At 10:39 a.m. they were dispatched to that address, where the victim reported he came home and a man was in his house. He said the man hit him in the face and took his wallet and $300 cash, then left on foot.
Shortly before the end of the school day Monday, an incident occurred at Great Bend High School. Although a student had a BB gun in his backpack, it was not pointed at anyone and school dismissed as usual, according to Lt. Bill Browne at the Great Bend Police Department.
ST. JOHN - Leonard Rex Davis, 84, died Feb. 23 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. He was born Mar. 2, 1929, at Manter, the son of Earl R. and Rosa M. (Kidwell) Davis. He was a farmer/stockman and life-long resident of rural St. John.

Christy Smith, 49, died Feb. 22 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born May 22, 1964 at Travis U.S. Air Force Base Hospital in Fairfield, Calif., she was the daughter of Wendell H. and Mary (Brocher) Smith. A Great Bend resident since 1971, Christy was employed as a residential home care provider for Rosewood Services. She enjoyed animals, movies, reading, and sharing her wonderful wit and sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed helping others, always identifying with those in need.
Maxine R. Heueisen, 80, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 23, 1933 in Stafford County, she was the daughter of Earl and Jesse (Ballinger) Carr. On Nov. 26, 1955, she married Charles Heueisen in Larned. He died on April 17, 1979. A resident of Great Bend since 1997, coming from Larned. She was employed in the admissions department at Larned State Hospital, previously employed as the activities director at the Great Bend Manor and served as a case worker for the Center For Counselling. She had also previously operated the Meals on Wheels program ...
MUNJOR - Mary Ann Gross, 74, died Feb. 22, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Hays, she was the daughter of Ignatius and Irene (Werth) Koerner. On April 18, 1959, she married Wilbert Gross in Hays. She was a former licensed hairdresser and spent many years as a homemaker. She loved family gatherings with her children and grandchildren and the special trips she took with the love of her life, Wilbert.
Ellen Nadine Bittner, 81, died Feb. 23, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending with Morell Funeral Home in Larned.
