Congressman Tim Huelskamp said he plans to visit Barton County and other central Kansas counties before the end of the month.
A Claflin woman was taken to Ellinwood District Hospital with possible head injuries following a one-vehicle rollover early Sunday in Barton County. Other passengers in the Nissan Xterra refused treatment at the scene, and officers from the Barton County Sheriff's Office still weren't sure on Monday who was driving the car.

The 2011 KLA Young Stockmen's Academy (YSA) gathered for its second educational tour of the year June 27-29. The group of young KLA members from across the state spent three days in Kansas City learning more about the agribusiness and retail beef industries. The Kansas CASA Association has been nominated by the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program to be one of five statewide non-profit organizations competing in the Walmart Associates Choice program for a $100,000 grant. Through this new grant-making initiative, each Walmart employee across Kansas is being given the opportunity to vote for one organization to receive the grant. Voting will conclude on Aug. 6. In addition to the opportunity to compete for the $100,000, each non-profit organization will receive a $10,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation just for being nominated.

Orval E. Weeks, 86, died Feb. 26, 2014 at Sterling House in Great Bend. Services are pending with Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

An Abilene woman suspected of conspiracy to commit first degree murder was apprehended Tuesday in Stafford County, and was held for a time at the Barton County Jail.

The Great Bend Public Library has been selected as a "Hometown Teams" partner site and will receive a grant of up to $1,500 to tell its local story of sports and community. GBPL will join 17 museums, historical societies, libraries, and community organizations across the state in researching and documenting local sports stories as part of the Kansas Humanities Council's "Hometown Teams" initiative.
