​Prairie Quilt Guild to present biennial show

WICHITA - The Common Threads Quilt Show 2012 will be held June 21-23 at the Century II Exhibition Hall in Wichita. This year marks the 15th year for the biennial quilt show presented by the Prairie Quilt Guild. Exposure Time

St. Rose lab once again earns 'gold standard' accreditation

There are easier and cheaper ways to accredit a medical lab, but St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center has never settled for one of those options, said Carla Herl, administrative lab director. Eleanor C. Hines

ELLINWOOD - Eleanor Catherine (Hoffman) Hines, 92, died on Jan. 10, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1922, she was the daughter of Henry J. Hoffman and Teresa (Krier) Hoffman. In 1940, she graduated from Great Bend High School. On Jan. 21, 1941, she married Leo M. Hines in Great Bend. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1988. She was the Business Manager for the couple's plumbing business until their retirement in 1985.

Grace Anna Mehl 1918 - 2015

HOLYROOD - Grace Anna Mehl, 96, passed away Jan. 9, in Wilson. Born Oct. 14, 1918, in Claflin, she was the daughter of Henry and Anna (Lubinus) Soeken. On June 1, 1941, she married Harvey W. Mehl in Claflin. He preceded her in death in 2001. A lifetime resident of the Claflin, Holyrood, and Lorraine areas, she was a homemaker, farm wife, and nurse's aide at Ellsworth Hospital.

OLATHE - Rosaline M. Staab, 70, passed away Jan 10th. Born Jan. 15, 1944, in Hays, she was the daughter of to Alois and Domitilla (Befort) Pfannenstiel. She was 1962 graduate of Marian High School. On Oct. 5, 1963, she married Dennis C. Staab. They resided in Great Bend until 1999 when they relocated to Olathe. She was employed by Fuller Brush Company in Great Bend for 22 years and Olathe School District Food Production for the past 12 years.

County to observe Martin Luther King Day

Barton County Office Buildings will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, for Martin Luther King Day. The Records Division of the Sheriff's Office and the Health Department will also be closed. The Landfill will only be open from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. that day. Emergency services will be in normal operation.
