Loventrice C. “Lovey” Hutter 1923-2012

HUTCHINSON--Loventrice C. "Lovey" Hutter, 88, died July 16 at Hester Care Center in Hutchinson. Born Aug. 16, 1923, in Quitman, Ark., she was the daughter of James Frank and Eva Lena Bevins Hooten.

​Driver arrested after collision

A vehicle driven by Saul Moreno Leal was backing from a parking stall in the 1800 block of Main St. at 7:58 p.m. Sunday and struck a vehicle driven by Rachelle Widener, who was also backing up. Leal reportedly left the scene and was stopped at Seventh and Main, where he was arrested for driving without a license. He was booked into the Barton County Jail and released after posting a $500 surety bond.

​Guns recovered

The Ness County Sheriff's Office reports recovering a gun stolen from Great Bend. Ness County contacted the Great Bend Police Department at 11:54 p.m. Saturday to report it had recovered the weapon previously reported stolen.

​Motorist on dirt bike eludes police

An individual on a dirt bike eluded police Saturday night after allegedly committing traffic violations on Third Street. The incident occurred at 10:33 p.m. and officers were unable to locate the bike after it went through a field.

Pedestrian hit by vehicle

Great Bend Police are investigating an accident that occurred Saturday when a vehicle struck a pedestrian at 10th and Frey. David Mack was reportedly driving east on 10th St. at 6:11 p.m. and struck Robert Galliart, who was walking south on Frey St. Galliart was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where he was treated for a broken wrist and released.

Library to close for cleaning

ELLINWOOD -The Ellinwood School/Community Library will be closed for cleaning and maintenance July 17 through July 20. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 23.

Clara Barton Foundation announces scholarship recipients

HOISINGTON -The Clara Barton Foundation awards scholarships annually to local applicants interested in the pursuit of education in a medical field of study through scholarship endowments that have been established over the years. The Foundation awarded seven $500 scholarships this year.

Dale Burroughs of Ellinwood will celebrate his 80th birthday with an Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 27, at the upstairs room of The Lone Wolf Restaurant, 108 East 1st Street, in Ellinwood. Rayna Karst, an Emporia State University English major from Rush Center has been named to the dean's list for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Nearly 500 students were named to dean's lists for the spring 2015 semester.

HCC lists honor roll students

Hutchinson Community College has announced the honor rolls for the Spring 2015 semester, including grades through the end of the interterm session. 1,330 students have been honored with selection to the two honor roll listings, with 721 achieving the President's Honor Roll with a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.

Taylor Ann Latham of Great Bend has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for her commitment to the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service.
