Winter Middle School Dance scheduled for Friday night

The Great Bend Recreation Commission and the 20th Judicial District Juvenile Services will sponsor a Winter Middle School Dance from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Admission is $3 per student at the door. Students need to show GBMS ID when entering. Snacks will be provided.

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host "The Skinny On Complete Streets," a free Stop 'N Learn program, at noon Wednesday, April 8, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. "Complete streets" are context sensitive and allow for the movement of people as well as automobiles. Representatives from Be Well Barton County will talk about accessible walking, traffic calming measures and how trails encourage economic growth.

Church rummage sale Saturday

Great Bend's Presbyterian Women will hold their annual Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11, in the church Fellowship Hall at 24th and Washington. Mary Jane Wells 1925 - 2015

Mary Jane Wells, 89, died April 4, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 16, 1925, in Fort Scott she was the daughter of James L. and Lillie Mae (Chambers) Parker and was later adopted by Ruth Chidester Noggle. She attended school in St. John and later in Russell, where she graduated from in 1943. On June 1, 1943, she married Wayne Ingalls Grippin. They later divorced. She then married Joseph B. Wells. He died on June 5, 1999. A resident of Great Bend since 1992, coming from Russell, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles ...

Merlin Thomas Stang 1948-2015

ELLSWORTH - Merlin Thomas (Thom) Stang, 66, passed away March 26 at his home in Ellsworth. Thom was born to Albert and Anita Stang on August 7, 1948 in Marysville. He was raised in Victoria and was part of their graduating class of 1966. Thom was drafted and served the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1972, he married Ruann Kuntzsch. He completed training and was certified in printing at Salina Area Technical College.
