First a correction from last week regarding double-cropping called to my attention by a reader of the column.. I referred to fall planted wheat after corn or beans as double-cropping. A better description is continuous cropping. Double cropping would be soybeans or milo planted after wheat harvest. LARNED - Millard K. Barrett, 78, died Aug. 4, 2011, at his home in Larned. Born Feb. 15, 1933, in Larned, he was the son of Hugh M. and Elizabeth Boyer Barrett. HUTCHINSON - Maxine F. "Mickey" Proesch, 91, died Aug. 4, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 20, 1919, at Hutchinson, to Jacob and Mae Frederick. She married Melvin Proesch on Sept. 21, 1941. He died Aug. 3, 1987. Mrs. Proesch was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Great Bend. North Frey bridge work to begin Friday
According to the Barton County Engineers Office, L&M Contractors of Great Bend will begin bridge repair work on NE 10 Ave. (or North Frey Street), north of the Club at StoneRidge on Friday. Barricades will be placed at the intersection North and South of the structure, allowing access to local traffic only for about three weeks.

LAWRENCE - Sylvia M. Wagner, 86, died on May 2, at Brandon Woods in Lawrence. Born Feb. 24, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Marie (Wollert) Schmidt. On Nov. 17, 1946, she married Duane Wagner in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1991. She was a housewife and bank teller. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepoint.
