Reservations are being taken for pet photos for Christmas, a fundraiser for the Golden Belt Humane Society. Photos will be taken Saturday, Dec. 7, and the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 8, at Riggs Studio in Great Bend. The cost is $20 for two 5 by 7 and four wallet-size photos. The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host "Cook Once - Eat for a Month," at noon Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. This free Stop 'N Learn program will also be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave.
Dr. Robin Durrett, DO, will be the guest speaker when the Touched by Cancer support group meets at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Heartland Cancer Center. His topic will be "A Cancer Diagnosis can be a Blessing."
Nine members of the Great Bend High School Kays and 13 Kayettes attended the Area 6 KAY Regional Conference on Nov. 7 at Arkansas City Middle School. The clubs returned with the highest state award possible. The Kays and Kayettes each received the Gold Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2012-2013 school year.
The Great Bend Kiwanis Club has been chosen for the 2013 Friends of Scouting award, presented by the Boy Scout Quivira Council Board of Directors. Bill McKown, representing the board, presented a plaque to Kiwanis Club President Becky Dudrey at the Nov. 13 Kiwanis meeting.
Barton Community College theater students will fill the rolls of stage manager, cast member, director and everything in between as they present their annual student production at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 21-22 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
