Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111, and its Ladies Auxiliary, met on May 31 at the Post Home.
The descendants of Adam and Clara Hanzlick Hejny held their annual reunion on June 5 at the Carl Soden Recreation Center in Great Bend. A potluck dinner was swerved. Hostesses were JoAnn Atkins and Shelly Brown.
The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
USD 428 Great Bend School Food Service will offer the summer lunch program at Riley, Park, Eisenhower and Lincoln schools. The program will run from June 1 through June 24 (Monday through Thursday). Breakfast is served at Park and Riley only. There is no charge for anyone age 1 through 18. Sites are open to all children regardless of where they attend school. Parents may eat with their children for $3 for lunch or $2 for breakfast. All food must be consumed on site.

Kobus and Darcie Van Der Vyver announce the birth of their son, Vence Andre Van Der Vyver, on May 2 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He weighed 10 lbs. 7 oz. and was 22 1/2 in. long.

Hello Barton County! My name is Rena Berrett and I am the 2011 summer intern at the Barton County Office of K-State Research and Extension. This fall I will be a senior in Agricultural Business Management at Oregon State University. I just finished a year long exchange for the 2010-2011 school year where I studied at Kansas State University through the National Student Exchange Program.
Barton County Office Buildings will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, for Martin Luther King Day. The Records Division of the Sheriff's Office and the Health Department will also be closed. The Landfill will only be open from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. that day. Emergency services will be in normal operation.

James J. Rossman, 86, of Albert, and Rachel D. Hill, 30, of Larned, were injured Friday when vehicles they were driving collided in Barton County. The accident occurred at 4:15 p.m.
The Knights of Columbus men's stag will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Columbus Club, 723 Main, Great Bend. Social begins at 5:30 p.m. with prime rib dinner served at 6:30.

Helen Marie Steincamp, 84, died Jan. 10, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born Oct. 12, 1930, at Redwing, she was the daughter of Joseph R. and Anna Marie (Proksch) Dietz. She was a 1948 graduate of Hoisington High School.
