HOISINGTON - The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Clara Barton Hospital, is conducting a capital campaign to raise funds for an expansion project. John E. Taylor, 85, died Feb. 27 at Great Bend Regional Hospital.
Orval E. Weeks, 86, died Feb. 26 at Sterling House in Great Bend. Born May 16, 1927, in Russell County, he was the son of Marion B. and Edith I. (Ross) Weeks. On March 20, 1949 Orval married Virginia L. Campbell in Hoisington. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2005.
ELLIS - Eileen B. Wittman, 86, died Feb. 25 at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell. Born June 27, 1927, in Ellis, she was the daughter of George and Bernice (Coleman) Matteson. She attended school in Ellis, graduating from Ellis High School in 1945. She also attended Colorado Women's College in Denver for one year. On Nov. 7, 1948, she married Lawrence Wittman. He died on March 26, 2009. A resident Great Bend from 1973 to 1977, residing in Ellis most of her life, she was employed in the Ellis drugstores, as a dental assistant for Dr. Davis, as librarian ...

The Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist School is taking orders for the spring shipment of Bithell Berries from Boring, Oregon. The 14 pound boxes of fresh fruit are flash frozen so to better divide them upon arrival. Available now are Marion blackberries, red raspberries, boysenberries, blueberries, strawberries sliced with sugar, strawberries whole, loganberries, pie cherries, sweet cherries, peaches, apricots, apples and rhubarb. Also available are frozen jams of various flavors and puree.
HOISINGTON - The third annual "Taste of Hoisington" will offer a variety of homemade soups and cakes from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Hoisington Activity Center, 1200 Susank Rd. For a suggested $6 donation, guests will get two servings of soups, crackers, cake and drink. There will be a drawing for prizes.
