Gerald J. "Jerry" Christiansen 1926 - 2011
Gerald J. "Jerry" Christiansen, 84, died Jan. 18 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. He was born June 13, 1926, at Barton County, the son of Ralph and Elsie (Ewing) Christiansen. He married Alice Nadine Amerine on July 14, 1946, at Great Bend. She died Dec. 12, 2010. He was a mechanic for Manweiler Chevrolet and later opened Jerry's Repair. He was a lifetime Great Bend resident.
Georgia (Tyne) Valerius 1924 - 2011
LIBERAL - Georgia (Tyne) Valerius, 86, died Jan. 19 at her residence in Liberal. She was born July 30, 1924, in Jonesboro, Ark., the daughter of George and Ella (Gray) Munger. She married Arthur Gray (Bud) Valerius on Feb. 14, 1948, in Hoisington. He passed away July 31, 1979.
Great Bend Chamber - Coffee Canceled

Crime Stoppers seeks help solving burglary
Sometime on Jan. 3 or 4, a shed behind the Highland Hotel at 3017 10th St. in Great Bend was burglarized. Stolen were a roto-rooter, sink cable cleaner and a bundle of cables. Loss was $3,800. Barton Community College to hire cheerleading coach
The Board of Trustees of Barton Community College is scheduled to approve hiring of new personnel, including Stephanie Joiner, a candidate for head cheerleading coach, when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. North Frey bridge work to begin Friday
According to the Barton County Engineers Office, L&M Contractors of Great Bend will begin bridge repair work on NE 10 Ave. (or North Frey Street), north of the Club at StoneRidge on Friday. Barricades will be placed at the intersection North and South of the structure, allowing access to local traffic only for about three weeks.

LAWRENCE - Sylvia M. Wagner, 86, died on May 2, at Brandon Woods in Lawrence. Born Feb. 24, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Marie (Wollert) Schmidt. On Nov. 17, 1946, she married Duane Wagner in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1991. She was a housewife and bank teller. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepoint.
