Shafer Gallery closed for renovations

The Shafer Art Gallery will be closed until mid-November while it receives cosmetic enhancements, which include tile repairs and new accent tile being installed. The renovations also include new wall coverings.

Three undefeated GBHS debate teams

On Monday, Oct. 15, at the Hoisington Novice Debate Tournament, the Great Bend High School debate squad had four novice teams compete. Three teams placed and all were undefeated with a perfect three and zero win/loss record. Jordan Otten and Kameko Schultz placed first with perfect speaker points. Sarah Keller and Mallorie McNett placed fourth and Kimberly Gonzalez and Donovan Salgado placed sixth. "Out of my previous tournaments, I felt I did awful, but after placing at the Hoisington Tournament, it boosted my confidence. I am really looking forward to entering more tournaments." Wayne Simien to speak at Ellinwood Schools

ELLINWOOD - Wayne Simien, former University of Kansas basketball standout, will be at Ellinwood Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to speak with students. Mr. Simien received All American honors his junior and senior years at KU and was the BIG 12 Player of the Year his senior year. He was also the Lowe's Award Winner his final year, recognizing him as the nation's top senior men's basketball player. KU retired his number 23 jersey on Jan. 29, 2011. Parnassus Club auditions

The annual Parnassus piano and voice auditions were held in the Moses Chapel at Barton County College on March 7th. Tiffany Harms of Central Christian College, McPherson, was adjudicator for both piano and voice. Piano teachers entering students were: Darlene Boley, Becky Dudrey, Karole Erikson, Debbie Lebbin, Marlene Regehr, and Lorrie Stickney. Voice students were entered by Betty Erikson and Glenna Gaunt.

Grant writing workshop coming to Great Bend

Golden Belt Community Foundation will be hosting a one-day grant writing workshop March 25, at The Front Door on 1610 10th St. in Great Bend.
