HOISINGTON - Raymond L. Kraft, 94, died Aug. 19 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born March 5, 1918 in Galatia, he was the son of Jacob George and Eva E. (Ehrlich) Kraft. On Dec. 15, 1945 he married Rosa Deutsch in Galatia. She died on Jan. 9, 1997. A lifetime resident of Galatia and Hoisington, he was farmer and a stockman. After retirement from farm life he and Rosa moved to Hoisington to enjoy their time in town.
Wilmer "Wimpy" Sander, 80, died Aug. 19 at his home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 14, 1931 in Victoria, he was the son of Joe J. and Adeline (Meis) Sander. On Feb. 12, 1952 he married Norma Jean Engel in Ellis. A resident of Great Bend for 54 years, coming from Otis, he was a meat cutter for McCurdy Locker, Wimpy's Meat and Locker Service and Central Kitchen.
TIMKEN - Stanley M. Elsen, 61, died Aug. 19 at Hutchinson Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1951 in Great Bend, he was the son of Nicholas and Emelia (Schwartz) Elsen. He was a resident of Timken for 26 years, coming from Pawnee Rock. On May 8, 1976 he married Janet Rodie in Great Bend. She survives. Mr. Elsen was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Marjorie Doreen Harrington, 91, died Aug. 20 at River Bend Assisted Living. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend.
ELLINWOOD-Theresa Schartz, 73, died Aug. 19 at her home in Ellinwood. Born May 15, 1939 at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Dorothy (Herl) Herrman. She grew up in Great Bend, but would later move to Ellinwood after she married LeRoy G. Schartz on Dec. 31, 1955. He died May 26, 2010. Mrs. Schartz was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ellinwood. She also served with the Altar Society and attended the Prince of Peace Parish of Great Bend. She was a long term active member of Curves.
The Barton Community College Board of Trustees is set to hire an assistant volleyball coach and a developmental lab coordinator when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda are "CBJT Grant Wrap-Up Presentation," "Monitoring Report - End #8 - Strategic Plan," and "Developmental Education Review & Implications."
