Cash and cigarettes stolen

Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a burglary that happened in the early hours of May 3 at Cervs, 1000 Main in Great Bend. Police Chief Dean Akings said a window was broken with a piece of concrete. Cash and cigarettes were stolen. Damage and property loss were in excess of $1,900.

Medical issue sends motorist to hospital

A Cimarron man was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital following a one-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in the 600 block of NE 40 Road, about three miles north and three miles east of Great Bend.

Kirmer retires

Barton Community College Coordinator of Community Education Janet Kirmer receives a big hug from Dean of Workforce Training Elaine Simmons during her retirement reception Monday. Kirmer's last day is June 28, when she will begin working as the parish secretary for Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Great Bend. George W. Bemis 1935 - 2012

George W. Bemis, 77, died Jan. 26 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Jan. 25, 1935 in Great Bend, he was the son of Carney and Ula (Falgren) Bemis. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University, he worked for the Corps of Engineers in Kansas City. On Oct. 31, 1959 he married Jane Olsen at Sparta, Wis. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was owner and operator of Bemis Construction, Inc.

Helen Maxine Barlow 1927-2012

HOISINGTON- Helen Maxine Barlow, 85, died June 18 at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born Jan. 25, 1927 at Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Iola (Kincaid) Hilderbrandt. In 1950, she married E.C. "Dusty" Barlow in Arkansas. Helen was a Barton County resident since 1964. She moved to Texas in 2011 to be closer to her daughters.
