GENESEO - Johnetta G. Rolfs, 87, died May 5 at the Ellsworth County Medical Center. Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Rush County, she was the daughter of John and Sarah Scheuerman Kaiser. A 1942 graduate of Otis Rural High School, she then attended Fort Hays State College, receiving her teaching degree. On June 10, 1948, she married Alvin D. "Pete" Rolfs in Otis. He died on Dec. 9, 1995. A longtime resident of Geneseo and Lyons, she was a homemaker and elementary school teacher in Geneseo.
LARNED - Rolla Gaylen Renfro, 73, died May 4 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Oct. 14, 1937, at Great Bend, he was the son of Rolla G. and Viola B. (Elmore) Renfro. A Larned resident most of his life, he was a guard at the Larned Correctional Metal Health Facility, retiring in 2005.

Holy Family School had a "Dress Down Day for a Cause" in April and the "Cause" was Kans for Kids. Students were allowed to dress out of their uniform for one day by either donating $1 or bringing in aluminum cans for Kans for Kids. The Kans for Kids trailer sat in the school parking lot for over a week and the school and parish was encouraged to donate their cans. CLAFLIN - Joseph "Joe L." Kaiser, 98, died Nov. 12 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 6, 1916, on the farm in Claflin, the son of Lawrence and Louisa (Fonscher) Kaiser. Joe was a farmer and a stockman.

The Great Bend High School A Cappella Choir will host a garage sale from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Panther Activity Center. Items include appliances, computers, household items, clothing and everything in between.

"Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" based on Mark Twain's classic will be presented at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 13, 14 and 15, in the school's theatre. Director Betsy Dutton calls the show a "rewarding challenge."
