In recent years there has been ongoing discussion regarding a potential change in distance for KSHSAA high school girls cross country. Surveys of coaches and athletic directors have reflected increasing support to increase the girls' race distance from 4K to 5K in KSHSAA postseason competition. During the October 2014 KSHSAA Regional Administrator meetings, this was a topic of conversation in part, due to a letter from the U.S. Office of Civil Rights notifying KSHSAA of a complaint OCR received.

Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is holding a Bioblitz Friday evening, June 19, through Saturday, June 20. The Bioblitz is a scientific effort to find as many species of plants and animals as possible at Quivira over a 24-hour period. The event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Bioblitz is free and open to all ages. The main check-in and headquarters for the event will be located at the Refuge's Environmental Education Classroom, located 8 miles north of the Refuge Headquarters/Visitor Center.

Average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have risen 7.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.63 per gallon earlier this weekly, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.81.
An Ellsworth woman died when the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle on K-156, 14 miles northeast of Great Bend at 4:19 p.m. on Tuesday. A 2000 Mazda protege driven by Teresa Mehl, age 45, was travelling east on K-156 and crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with a 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 driven by Andrew Kirkpatrick, 31, from Ellinwood.

Craig Ranch North Community Pool in McKinney, Texas was not a "whites only" pool, but it might as well have been. Before Eric Casebolt shoved a black girl's face into the ground and pulled a gun on her two unarmed friends, white neighborhood residents at the pool assumed that all those black teenagers were in the wrong place. They didn't see the invited guests of a black neighbor getting a little rowdy at an end-of-school pool party. They saw black people who didn't belong in the mostly white neighborhood.
