Great Bend Police received several reports Sunday of thefts from homes and vehicles. Someone entered the residence at 2535 Forest Ave. and took several items. A Honda CRX at 1101 Kansas Ave. was broken into and stereo equipment was taken. Someone also broke the window on a 2001 Kia at 4820 10th St. and took stereo equipment. Woman treated for minor injuries after collision
The Great Bend Police Department reports Charles Rupp was driving north on Patton Road at 4:43 p.m. Saturday and his vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Jasmine Velasco, who was westbound on 10th St. turning south onto Patton. Velasco was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where she was treated for injuries and released.

Kiwanis’ Easter egg hunt scheduled for Saturday
The annual Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Great Bend Noon Kiwanis club is set for 9:30 a.m. sharp, Saturday at the Kiwanis Walking Track on the North side of Veterans Memorial Park, just off McKinley Street. Barton Community College will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Barton's Center for Adult Education and Shafer Gallery also will be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume Tuesday, April 26.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Barton Community College cheer and dance teams competed over the weekend at the 2011 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship with both placing in the top 5 of their respective divisions. The cheer squad finished in fourth place at the National Cheerleaders Association's championships in the junior college division.

Food Bank donation
On a recent afternoon visit to the Barton County Food Bank the volunteers were scurrying about trying to assist local residents who were overflowing the waiting room, many with children in tow, hoping for emergency food assistance. It clearly demonstrated the urgency of ongoing needs still existing for local families in Barton County as well as the critical commitment needed from the community for ongoing financial support for this worthwhile endeavor.
