OTIS - Ed Batchman, 68, died Sept. 6 at Rossville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rossville. He was born Aug. 24, 1945, at Ellinwood, the son of Ernie and Bonnie (Baxter) Batchman. He married Connie Petz Sept. 24, 1971, at Ellinwood. Mr. Batchman was a longtime resident of Otis, working for BOC Gases as an electronic technician.

Gonsalo (Steve) E. Lemuz 1949 - 2013

LARNED - Gonsalo (Steve) E. Lemuz, 63, died Sept. 5 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester Minnesota. He was born Dec. 10, 1949, at Larned, the son of Circilo and Josefa Marguez Lemuz. He worked in the Engineering Department at the Larned State Hospital and was a lifetime area resident.

CKAVI prepares for Craft & Food Sale

The Central Kansas Association for the Visually Impaired will hold its annual Craft and Food Sale on the last weekend of September. Cecelia Steffan 1923 - 2013

Cecelia Steffan, 90, died Sept. 6 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born Aug. 5, 1923, at Marienthal, the daughter of John F. and Magdalena (Dreher) Younger. She married Frank J. Steffan on Oct. 21, 1942, at Marienthal. He died Feb. 24, 2001. A Great Bend resident since 1945, coming from Marienthal, she was a homemaker.

Bruce Tomlinson 1941 - 2013

MINNEOLA - Bruce L. Tomlinson, 71, passed away early morning on Aug. 19, at the Minneola District Hospital after a brief illness. Born Aug. 23, 1941, in Chanute, he was the son of Johnie 0. and May (Churchill) Tomlinson. On Sept. 24, 1966, he married Linda Kane in Hershey, Pa. She survives.

HHR lassoes showdown rodeo as fundraiser

A true cowboys' showdown rodeo fundraiser will be held to benefit Healing Hearts Ranch, a nonprofit ranch providing low cost equine therapy. Barton improved to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. Cowley drops to 1-2, 0-2.
