ELLINWOOD - Judith Kay Ritchie, 69, died March 3 at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born June 23, 1941 in Hays, she was the daughter of Roy Lafayette Bailes and Genevieve Marie Davis Bailes. In 1957, she married Aubrey Tatro at Medicine Lodge. She later married Clarence Randall Ritchie on April 29, 1961 in Medicine Lodge. He died on Dec. 30, 2007. SAN ANGELO, Texas - Tom L. Berscheidt dedicated his life to family, friends, and serving God. On Feb. 11, surrounded by many people who loved him, Tom passed away from complications associated with esophageal cancer, just 17 days before his 60th birthday. Gene G. Krankenberg 1932 - 2011
HUDSON – Gene George Krankenberg, 78, died March 2 in Overland Park. Born May 20, 1932 in Udall,he was the son of Leo and Lorine Krankenberg. A long time resident of Hudson, he was a farmer. On Sept. 26, 1955 he married Chiemi Ishimaru in Japan.
Laurene Elizabeth Marvin
LA CROSSE - Laurene Elizabeth Marvin, 89, died March 1 at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom. Born March 16, 1921 in Ransom, she was the daughter of Mathias Frederick and Mary Margaret (Roths) Friess. A resident of Ransom for the past 14 months, coming from La Crosse where she had lived since 1961. She was a homemaker. On Dec. 6, 1947 she married E. Leon Marvin in Wichita. He died April 10, 2004.
Library to host WWII exhibit
ELLINWOOD - In 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland and started a world wide war with unmatched death, violence and fire power, and the lives of 60 million people were extinguished, Ellinwood is remembering its own at the Ellinwood/Community School Library with an exhibit of those who served, and of those who never returned.
Council approves changes to utility connection fees; shutoffs
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council approved at its Monday meeting, Ordinance 1457 establishing regulations and fees utility services. The fee for establishing electrical service is $100, and the fee for establishing water service is $50. The person requesting utility service must provide a proof of ownership or a rental lease agreement in addition to a government issued photo identification.

'Meet the Candidate' USD 355 forum to be held
ELLINWOOD - Candidates running for USD 355 School Board have been invited to participate in a "Meet the Candidate" discussion forum at 6 p.m. on March 14 at the Ellinwood Community/School Library. This is an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates and hear their responses to various issues facing the schools. Six candidates have filed for four positions.

Patricia L. Young 1934 - 2011
LARNED - Patricia L. Young, 76, died March 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 2, 1934 in Larned, she was the daughter of Clarence Gordon Hammond and Leora Nulf Hammond Kristufek. Moving from Rural Edwards County to Larned in 1973, she was the Administrator for Hammond Holiday Home. On Feb. 2, 1983 she married Lewis C. Young at Colorado Springs, Colo. He survives.
Celebration of Fat Tuesday with Annual Monterrey Dinner
First Congregational United Church of Christ, 3400 21st Street, invites everyone to celebrate "Fat Tuesday" at their tenth annual Monterrey Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Tickets are $7.50 and $3.50 for children 6 and younger and are available in advance or at the door, with take-out available. An accessible entrance is located on the Polk Street side of the church.

Kansas CRP meetings for landowners prior to signup hosted by PF
Pheasants Forever is hosting fifty-one informational meetings across Kansas for landowners and agricultural producers in advance of the USDA Farm Service Agency's Conservation Reserve Program general sign-up that runs May 20 through June 14. Led by Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologists, landowners can learn how to increase their farm or ranch income while creating wildlife habitat in the process.

USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools
The following meals will be served May 13 through May 17. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there! The month of May has arrived and that means a frenzy of activity for families who are celebrating Mother's day today and graduations now or in the weeks ahead. I am truly blessed to have my mother-in-law, daughter, and granddaughters close by. It is a joy to spend time together at a moment's notice. Hopefully your weekend plans include some good family time with plenty of hugs.
