BCC’s Ellis inks MLS contract
Kevin Ellis became the first Barton Community College soccer player to make it all the way to Major League Soccer when he signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City last Friday. Ellis inked the contract at a press conference Friday afternoon. Ellis did not need to be drafted as part of the MLS program for home grown players. Ellis is a native of Kansas City, Mo.

HAYS – Alex Fredrick Bisterfeldt, age 90, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center, Hays,. He was born May 21, 1920, in rural Ellsworth County to Carl and Dorothea (Funk) Bisterfeldt. He married Theresa (Short) on Oct.26, 1946, at Hays. She died Septe. 9, 2000.

Kent Darrell Hoss, 57, died Feb. 20 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center after a three battle with cancer. Born June 29, 1953 in Great Bend, he was the son of Paul and Dorothy Alice (Hall) Hoss. A resident of Great Bend most of his life, he was a carpenter and roofer.

George Franklin Trimmer III, 63, of Great Bend died Feb. 19 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 22, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Ia. he was the son of George and Edna Law Trimmer. Man battered at convenience store made multiple calls to police
A Great Bend man was allegedly battered by four other people, Saturday night or early Sunday at the Kwik Shop at 24th and Main. The 2013 scholarship recipients are Stephanie Troyer who will be majoring in Music Education and attending Barton Community College. Dan Allen Noblitt 1934 - 2013
Dan Allen Noblitt, 78, died May 4 at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 16, 1934 in Great Bend, he was the son of George O. and Edith (Marsh) Noblitt. On April 18, 1958 he married Thelma Beebe in Norwalk, Calif. A long time resident of Great Bend, he was most recently employed as a regional manager for Super 8 Motels.
Helen R. Berscheidt 1918 - 2013
BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.
