John Leroy Noblitt, 61, passed away in Great Bend early on Wednesday morning, Sept. 26. Born Dec. 6, 1950 in Great Bend, he was the son of Jack and Clara (Hamrdla) Noblitt. A resident of Great Bend for the majority of his life, he attended school in Great Bend, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968. A United States Army veteran, John served in Vietnam. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated an accident about 5:32 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 56 and K-156. The patrol reports that a GMC 1500 pick-up operated by Tanner Cain, 20, of Beaver, Okla. had stopped at a stop sign before driving onto U.S. 56 into the path of a westbound Mack semi-tractor operated by Brian Wick, 39, of Ness City. Cain was injured and transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital. Wick was not injured. Traffic was diverted at the intersection.

Great Bend Middle School Wrestlers traveled to Salina for a duel tournament on Saturday. "I'm very proud of our team. These guys sacrifice a lot just to participate in wrestling. The fact is this group gave up a Saturday to work their tails off and achieve something pretty special." commented Panthers Coach Norbert Muth. Ten teams attended the tournament. The teams were split into two pools and the winner of each pool would wrestle for the championship. Karl Lee Brack, 84, died Dec. 7, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Larned, he was the son of Sol M. and Neva M. (Toots) Brack. He was a 1948 graduate of Great Bend High School and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1953. On Sept. 28, 1958, he married Loreta J. "Reta" Hill in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Mr. Brack began work at KCKT-TV as a sales representative until February 1956, when he started work for American State Bank and Bank IV, retiring in 1991 ...
