Joyce Lust will celebrate her 80th birthday on Nov. 19 with a family dinner in Great Bend, hosted by her children, daughters Gail Lust of Great Bend, and Kathy McAtee, of Yukon, Okla. and son, Keith Lust and wife Carol of Orlando, Fla. She has two grandsons, Jarad McAtee and wife Krystal of Yukon, Okla. and Neal McAtee of Mustang, Okla.
The Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School is preparing for its holiday citrus fruit order. The navel oranges and pink grapefruit are from the Indian River area of Florida and are picked, packed, and shipped for rapid delivery. This allows for the freshest fruit. They are taking orders for the navel oranges and pink grapefruit through Dec. 2. The fruit will be available on Dec. 11-12 at the school, 1 mile west of 10th and Patton Road. These boxes of fruit are excellent for Christmas gifts and gift certificates
Elda Schroeder will celebrate her 95th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Papa's Cafe in Albert. Hosts for the event will be her children, Troy Schroeder of Albert and Jean Hanks of Great Bend.
Karla Taylor of Great Bend, and Dr. M. R. "Pete" Hayden, of Camdenton, Mo. were united in marriage on Oct. 11 in a private outdoor ceremony near Camdenton, Mo.

Barton County 4-H members were honored for their accomplishments at the 77th annual 4-H Achievement Celebration. The theme was "Blue Jeans and Country Dreams". Gracie Brantley, 4-H Council President served as the emcee. Drew Reisner, 4-H Council Vice President led the members in the Flag Salute and 4-H Pledge.
Curiously on one of the Wichita TV stations after the most recent precipitation, the weatherman spent time regarding the drought and if the drought was over. LARNED - Eldon A. Hays, 86, died on April 1, at Diversicare of Larned. Cremation has taken place. Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
LARNED - Karlene K. Meckfessel, 68, passed away April 1, 2014 at her home.
John lived in the Pratt and Sawyer area in his younger years and graduated from Moscow High School and Fort Hays State University. He served seven years in the Army Reserves out of Hays.

Congressman Tim Huelskamp will hold his next Barton County town hall from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at the Great Bend Farm & Ranch Expo, in Exop III, west of Great Bend. He is continuing the tradition of visiting each of the District's 63 counties each year. So far, Representative Huelskamp has completed 221 town halls during his time in office.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office will conduct a concealed carry firearms safety class starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the office, 1416 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend. This class is a prerequisite for application for a Kansas concealed carry handgun license.

The veteran's representative from the Kansas Commission on Veteran's Affairs will not be making his normal second Thursday visit in April to the Kansas Works Office.
