The public is invited to "Come Breakout in Worship" at 7 p.m. Friday at Perkins Family Restaurant, 2920 10th St. in Great Bend. Worship will be led by Christina Ball and sons. The message will be delivered by Pastor Hopkins Sr. of Missouri. A freewill love offering will be taken.

Members of the First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, see helping others as a strong commitment of their faith. The Life Giving Center is the focus of their August mission. Members are sorting clothing for use, not only by families currently being helped by the Center, but it also serves as a clothing resource for any in the community needing clothing items.

Hoisington Bible Church has reunion

HOISINGTON - In 1941, several believers in Hoisington organized a Bible class called the Hoisington Bible School. Every Sunday afternoon this group of 10 to 15 people met for service. In 1942, the church began to flourish and the name Hoisington Bible School was changed to Hoisington Bible Church (HBC). Eventually the need to incorporate led the church to file appropriate papers with the State of Kansas on August 26, 1943.

Is a Wall Street Crash Coming to Public Schools?

Just like AAA ratings on mortgage-backed securities led to Wall Street's 2008 disaster, a rash of accountability scandals might be precursors to a similar public school crash. After years of promises that test-driven accountability would yield miracles, scandals with school ratings are popping up all over the country. Unless we hold reformers as accountable as they hold students, these scandals could bring down our public school system the same way Wall Street almost innovated our economy back into the Stone Age.
