There are new books at the Ellinwood Community/School Library. They are:
Trinity United Methodist Church, 5700 Broadway, will hold a free hotdog dinner with fun and games from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia will hold a homemade ice cream social from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 11. Desserts will be served with the ice cream and a variety of toppings. Donations will be used for community and Christmas donations and will be matched by Thrivent. The public is welcome.
The First Congregational United Church of Christ is having a gourmet coney/hotdog fundraiser for Kaito Richter from 5 to 7 pm. on Aug. 31. Kaito, 2 1/2 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing's sarcoma, in his leg last November.

Sterling College named Rebecca E. Oberle of Claflin, to the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall 2013 semester. To earn this honor, students must have a gpa of 3.50 or better in at least 12 credits of residential work or 10 credits for Sterling College Online students. Oberle was one of 207 who earned this honor.
A key concept taught in any economics class is the difference between an economic and a noneconomic good. The difference involves scarcity. In fact a concise definition of economics is "The study of the allocation of scarce resources between competing ends." Scarcity is simply defined as the amount of something that is available compared to the demand for that something.
