Yesterday, I watched the news story of the fire in the middle of the flood in New York City. It was amazing that such a destructive fire could function in the middle of a storm and flood. But, what really caught my attention was a statement that was made at the end of the story. "We are strong. We will rebuild." Why?

The sheriff who had former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez in custody for more than 18 months said Tuesday that he's a master manipulator and will probably do fine in prison now that he has been sentenced to life for murder.
A benefit dinner for Charles Ultan Bahr to help with hospital costs will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olmitz. Hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips and a dessert will be served. There will also be a cash raffle. Charles is the son of Joey and Anita Bahr. A free will donation will be taken.
The Eagles Women's Auxiliary 646 donated $3,431 to the Kans for Kids radiothon fundraiser held March 27. The held an auction and faffle at the Eagles on the 21st to raise money for the organization that helps families who are facing a battle with childhood cancer. Friday, Sunflower Bank presented a check for $212.45 to the Ellinwood Healthcare Foundation. The funds, contributed by health care professionals and employees in the health care industry, were generated every time an enrolled participant swiped their Sunflower Bank Visa debit card. It's part of a program called the Sunflower Bank Healthcare Professional Program.

This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by the Pilot Club of Great Bend at the Chamber Board Room, 1125 Williams, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host will be Nancy Sundahl with greeters Connie Oetken and Julie Smith. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.
