Gerald "Jerry" Wagnon, 67, died June 12 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Dec. 23, 1943, at Joplin, Mo., the son of Dean and Leona (Beatty) Dugan. He married Wanda Halling on Feb. 14, 1981, at Dundee. He worked for Reiter Chevrolet, Standish Motors and Jeff O'Neill Ford as a car salesman.

ST. JOHN - The St. John Sunday Jam, an open jam session for area music lovers, is on summer break and will not be meeting this Sunday. The event, which used to be called Radium City Limits until the venue changed, meets on the first Sunday of every month, October through June, in a building located in the St. John town square.

Great Bend Regional Hospital sponsored Human (e)Motion on Saturday, June 18th. One-hundred and twenty athletes and 45 volunteers enjoyed a perfect Kansas summer day participating in different running, biking, and walking events. All proceeds went to the Great Bend Family Crisis Center.

The Great Bend High School Speech team placed in 11 events at the Nickerson Speech Tournament. Those placing were Makinna Dykes, Kris Gieck and Ashtin Heath. Ashtin placed in both of her events. Those placing in all of their events and qualifying for the State Speech Championship Tournament in May are Malia Clark, Jesus Sandoval and Carter Sheffield. Carter Sheffield also won the Triathlon Award by placing the highest in all three of his events. He placed 1st in Extemporaneous Speaking, 1st in Serious Solo Acting and 3rd in Impromptu Speaking. The team placed 3rd overall.
