Mathew Cooley of Hoisington was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital with a possible head injury after a one-vehicle accident Monday on U.S. 281.
FOUNTAN HILLS, Ariz. - Born March 18, 1932, Robert Allen Peterson left this world Dec. 6, but forever remains in our hearts.
HOISINGTON - Geraldine Callaway, 83, was born April 30, 1928, in Dodge City, to the Rev. Louis Clyde and Lorraine Goddard Gale. Geraldine died Dec. 10 in Hoisington.
HOISINGTON - Shawn Alan Ney, 33, died Dec. 10 in Great Bend. Born Dec. 16, 1977, in Hoisington, he was the son of Michael and Debra (Bennett) Ney. A lifelong resident of Barton County, he graduated from Barton Community College with an Associate in Science degree from the LPN program.
Ross Behrens, 56, died Dec. 11 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born March 18, 1955, in Great Bend, he was the son of Fred and Dorothy (Ratliff) Behrens Jr. On Jan. 31, 1975, he married Karen Nagel in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a truck driver and a machinist for Aaron's Repair.
Elsie L. Swope, 90, died Dec. 11 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 31, 1920, in Salem, Ill., she was the daughter of Clyde and Katherine (Brubaker) Barrow. In Aug. 1938 she married Charles Chester Collier. He died on Feb. 8, 1944. On April 11, 1965, she married Edward L. Swope in Salem, Ill. He died on Aug. 8, 1974. A resident of Great Bend since 1976, coming from Salem, Ill., she was a homemaker, a bank teller, and had worked in a shoe store and a dress shop.
LIBERAL - Donald L. Komarek, 86, of Liberal, died Dec. 10, 2011, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal. He was born June 9, 1925 in Ellinwood.
HOISINGTON - Priscilla Ann (Engel) Benignus was born in Herington on Oct. 9, 1931, the daughter of Oscar and Hortense (Ehrsam) Engel, and was raised in Enterprise. She graduated from Kansas State University with a teaching certificate and taught at Simpson. On May 25, 1952, she married Robert M. Benignus. They lived in Alton for several years before moving to Hoisington in 1955. Robert preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2009. While raising her family, Priscilla substitute taught in Hoisington and then worked for the Central Kansas Girl Scout Council, training and supporting Girl Scout leaders in Barton and surrounding ...
