Fort Larned making economic impact on area

Officials at Fort Larned National Historic Site west of Larned announced Tuesday a new National Park Service report that shows 29,423 visitors spent $1,598,000 in area communities and at Fort Larned in 2010. This spending supported 28 jobs in the local area.

Silver Cougar Club offers ‘Native People of Kansas’ class

Barton Community College history instructor Linda McCaffery will teach a course about the Native Americans who inhabited Kansas, beginning with the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. The class, "Native People of Kansas," will meet from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 6 through May 1, in room F-30, the seminar room of Barton's Fine Arts Building.

Hazardous Operations Training

Farming is a dangerous business. In fact, farming is one of the most dangerous jobs in the US. Every year, around one hundred youth are killed in farm work related activities. A lot of these deaths could have been prevented with better safety practices. Every year, Barton County, K-State Extension and Research provides a class in Hazardous Occupations Training to teach youth ages 13-18 about the Hazards of farm work, and how to create a safer working environment.
