MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. -Leona P. Berry, 94, of Minneapolis, died Nov. 22 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Leona was born May 9, 1916, near Beaver, to William and Grace (Chenoweth) Berry. She graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, at the age of 16. Leona was too young to teach so she stayed home for one year. Then she taught county grade schools (first through eighth grades) in Russell County, starting at the age of 17 after a brief Normal Training at Fort Hays College. A double fatality accident occurred last Thursday in Rush County, when two trucks collided at and unmarked intersection on sanded roads, the Rush County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday. Dale Rausch and Bernard Gilner were pronounced dead at the scene. Daniel Stegman was transported to Hays Medical Center in Hays by Rush County Emergency Medical Service with undetermined injuries.
A burglary at 1521 Jefferson St. in Great Bend was reported Sunday morning. Someone allegedly broke into the residence and took numerous items, including $1,100 cash, an iPod Touch and a PlayStation.

MISSION, Texas - Beverly Louise Colegrove Boyer died at the age of 82 due to natural causes at Mission, Texas, on Nov. 18. Beverly was born Aug. 1, 1926, the daughter of Helen Louise Miller Colegrove and Arthur Colegrove. She was the granddaughter of Herman C. and Mary Colegrove and Lester C. and Christine Miller, all of whom were residents of Great Bend before their deaths. On March 7, 1946, Beverly was wed to Harold Wayne Boyer. They were married for 54 years before "Wayne" passed away in January of 2000.
LARNED - Merle D. Wilson, 73, died on Nov. 19 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
Sterling College named Rebecca E. Oberle of Claflin, to the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall 2013 semester. To earn this honor, students must have a gpa of 3.50 or better in at least 12 credits of residential work or 10 credits for Sterling College Online students. Oberle was one of 207 who earned this honor.
