Marian Beakey Call 1921-2015

Marian Beakey Call, 93, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at The Cedars in McPherson. Born July 12, 1921, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Arthur and Isabella (Schwager) Beakey. She was the oldest of six children.

Ellinwood City Council Meeting Tuesday

The Ellinwood City Council will conduct the regular council meeting Tuesday, July 14 at 7 p.m. At that meeting, a service award will be presented to electric department employee Chris Komarek for his 35 years of service to the City of Ellinwood. Everett Millard Kimball 1926 - 2015

MEDICINE LODGE - Everett Millard Kimball, 89, died July 8, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Medicine Lodge, the son of Millard A. Kimball and Grace E. (Pearce) Kimball. On April 8, 1947, he married Josephine M. (Becker) Kimball in St. Leo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2011. Everett was a retired oil field worker. Everett was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

United Way hotdog feed Thursday at Movie in the Square

The United Way of Central Kansas is teaming up with the City of Great Bend to host our annual Community Hot Dog Feed in conjunction with the Movie in the Square on Thursday, July 16. The event was rescheduled after it was postponed during June Jaunt due to inclement weather.

32nd Annual Kansas State Demolition Derby

The 32nd Annual Kansas State Demolition Derby will be held Sunday, September 6, part of this year's four day Labor Day Weekend in Hoisington. The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual event, with support from Superior Essex, JRZ Enterprises, and Parr Sound and Lighting. Larned musicians peform with Great Bend City Band

The Great Bend City Band performed Thursday night at the Crest Theater in Great Bend. Several Larned members perform. The Larned contingent features front row, Larned High band director Katie Sperry, Mary Hunter, Jan Wysong, Kwinter Hartshorn, and Kate Schroeder, LHS senior; back row, Russell Linderer, Marc Colglazier, Chase Penka, Jack Anderson, Dalton McClendon, LHS student. Sperry serves in the Army Reserves and plays the clarinet in the Army Band, which recently performed during a Kansas City Royals game.
