BUSHTON - Father James J. Roth, 95, died Nov. 7, 2015, at Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire. Born Sept. 23, 1920, near Deerfield, he was the son of Joseph and Christina A. Schaefer Roth. He received his Theology Degree, from Conception Seminary in Missouri. A resident of Bushton for 51, years, retiring to Claflin in 1998, later moving to Wichita, he was a retired life-long Catholic Priest for the Wichita Diocese, serving at Holy Name Catholic Parish rural Bushton for 51 years.
LARNED - Larned High School has named its Student Spotlight students for October - Skylar Collins, Academics; Dava Makings, Leadership/Service; Dorothy Keenan, Athletics; and Jorden Drimmel, Fine Arts.
Dallas Humphrey, Larned High student, designed a new logo that will be used for school activities. "Nobody in the country has this "L," and I think that's pretty cool," said Dustin Wilson, Larned High athletic director. Larned is using the logo for school uniforms and school apparel. Joining Humphrey for a group photo are Dustin Wilson, Larned athletic director; Wendy Sundahl, Larned High art teacher; Dallas Humphrey and A.B. Stokes, Larned High football coach. Kristin Keith serves as the president of the Indian Booster Club.
According to the Great Bend Police Department, on Friday at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the Great Bend Police Department responded to Eisenhower Elementary School in reference to criminal threats. Officers were advised that a subject had threatened to cause great harm to a school staff member.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will be hosting a free Stop 'N Learn Session titled, "Society For Creative Anachronisum" on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 12–1 p.m., at the Great Bend Activity Center located at 2715 18th. The Society for Creative Anachronisum is an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating the sills and traditions of the pre-17th-century Europe. Members take part in a variety of activities, including costuming, metalwork, woodworking, music, dance, calligraphy, fiber art and much more. Great Bend Middle School announces the August through October Above and Beyond Winners. Each of these students was nominated by their teachers because they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS. The students received a certificate and a pizza and pop luncheon with the school Administrators.
