BASTIA, Corsica - Riders at the Tour de France know to expect the unexpected. But nothing could have prepared them for the mayhem that turned Saturday's first stage of the 100th Tour into a demolition derby on two wheels.
Great Bend Regional Hospital's staff put a lot of effort into this year's Human eMotion Event and all the hard work paid off, sponsors said. Five hundred eighty-seven participants and over 50 volunteers enjoyed a beautiful morning of running, walking and biking and raised more than $15,000 for the Family Crisis Center and Great Bend High School Future Business Leaders of America.
Local and area veterans now have the opportunity to receive more of their health-care services at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center, thanks to a federal pilot program. It is called Project ARCH, which stands for Access Received Closer to Home.
To celebrate Independence Day on July 4, the City of Great Bend - along with Sunflower Diversified Services and many other sponsors - will host a Community Fireworks Display at the Great Bend Expo Complex. The show is choreographed to music, and will begin at dusk. Sunset will take place at approximately 9:02 p.m., and the show will begin as soon as it is dark enough (around 9:33 p.m.).
PRATT- It was a very rewarding Father's Day for the dad's of the Barton Bandits 13U baseball team. Behind exceptional pitching the Bandits successfully defended back-to-back tournament titles at the 2015 Smoky Ford Wood Bat Tournament held this weekend at the Green Sports Complex in Pratt.
HAYS- The Golden Belt swim team recorded a first place finish at last weekend's meet in Hays. Aubrey Snapp placed first in all her events. Cal Dunekack and sister Camryn were standouts as well. Phane Pedigo and Dawson Clark were leaders in the high school boys events. All swimmers improved their times swimming in a 50 meter pool.
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Brookdale of Great Bend (Sterling House of Great Bend), 1206 Patton Road, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host will be Scott Donovan with greeters Kevin Sundahl and Claudia Elsen. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.
