The Great Bend High School Forensics team traveled to the Kingman Invitational Forensics tournament on Jan. 26th. Four members competed in two events in the first tournament of the season, which consisted of (freshman) Clara Kachanes, (sophomore) Sarah Keller, (senior) Chase Pumford, and (sophomore) Kameko Schultz. All three students that competed in Humorous Solo Acting, qualified to finals. Placing 1st was Chase Pumford, placing 5th was Sarah Keller, and placing 6th was Kameko Schultz. WINDOM - James Jonathan (Jim) Teeter, 44, of Windom die on Jan. 24 in rural McPherson. Born on Aug. 16, 1968 in Lindsborg, he was the son of Billie J. (Buffington) and James A. Teeter. He attended the Marquette grade schools and Marquette High school and graduated from Little River High School in 1986. He then attended Fort Hays State University. On Sept. 12, 1992 he was united in marriage to Jo Davenport in Great Bend. He was employed by Wear Tech in shipping and receiving in McPherson.

ST. JOHN - Audrey Faye (Shepherd) Nusser died on July 5, 2015, at her home in St. John. Born June 14, 1938, in Sylvia, she was the daughter of James and Mildred Shepherd. She was a resident of St. John since 1968 having worked for First National Bank in St. John for 30 years. On June 16, 1956, she married Lee Eldon Nusser in Sylvia. He preceded her in death in 2003.
DERBY - Edna M. Rohr, 82, loving mother and grandmother, passed away July 4, 2015, at home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Antonino, to Reinhold and Josephine (Kuhn) Herrman. Edna married Alfred Rohr on Nov. 11, 1954. She enjoyed visiting the ocean in New Jersey during the 16 years that they lived in Pennsylvania. After moving back to Kansas, Edna's life centered around her family. DUMAS, Texas - Irvin J. Gerstenkom, 70, of Dumas, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015. Irvin was born on June 22, 1945, to Hubert Leo and Mary Rose (Oborny) Gerstenkom in Hoisington. He was a part of the Dumas community since 1981.
The Great Bend Rec center will be extending the dates for this year's Hap Dumont 11U State Tournament. "We are extending the dates to begin this Friday due to the number of teams that have registered," said Christina Hayes, community development coordinator for the City of Great Bend. The GBHS varsity volleyball team won first place in the Barton Summer League tournament defeating Central Plains in the championship. The team will head to the University of Colorado Team Camp at Boulder July 16-18th. The Great Bend JV finished in second place in their tournament.
