Margie Helen (Bragg) Cooper 1927 - 2013

CANYON, Texas - Margie Helen (Bragg) Cooper, 85, died Feb. 27 in Amarillo Texas. Born on Dec. 20, 1927 in Goodman, Mo., she was the daughter of Lena Juliet (Rush) Bragg and August Clifton Bragg. On Sept. 15, 1945 she married Richard D. Cooper in Neosho, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1977. A resident of Hoisington from 1947 to 2012, moving to Canyon, Texas, she worked as office manager for Dr. Merle Fieser and Dr. Keith Wolfenbarger for 25 years before retiring in 1995. March 6 Lenten Luncheon

The Lenten Luncheon series continues with the next luncheon at noon on Wednesday, March 6, at First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway Ave. Host pastor is the Rev. Bill Johnson, and the speaker will be the Rev. Jim Strasen from Trinity Lutheran Church. Luncheons are from noon to 1 p.m. and open to the public. A freewill offering is accepted to defray the cost to the host congregation.

Shafer Gallery to show 'Signs of the Passion' exhibit

Two Christian artists give their very different and personal interpretations of the Stations of the Cross and Passion week in the new exhibit at Shafer Art Gallery, located on the Barton Community College campus. Bloodmobile comes to Great Bend Monday

Severe winter weather across much of Kansas forced the cancellation of 50 American Red Cross blood drives, resulting in a shortfall of more than 1,600 blood and platelet donations through the Red Cross Central Plains Region. Now that the storm has passed, eligible donors are encouraged to give lifesaving blood and platelets to help offset the current shortfall and ensure a stable supply.

Not The Onion

Separating satire from real news requires an advanced degree these days. When Jon Stewart becomes the most trusted newsman for millennials, the line between the evening news and The Onion gets blurry, so perhaps we shouldn't laugh so loudly at old Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Senator who's up for re-election next year. But given the circumstances-he's responsible for using the filibuster to prevent even the clocks from ticking in the Senate-maybe we should.
